Quantity Surveyor – Work Placement

Priestley Construction are looking for Construction Management and Building Surveying students who are wanting a paid work placement with a principal contractor working on prestigious new build and conversion projects from high-end apartments, large student accommodation, offices. Most projects are within large Grade II schemes. We are looking for students who hope to add value to Priestley’s processes, we welcome you to share ideas to help us continually evolve as a business.

Quantity Surveyor role

Working along side a Priestley Quantity Surveyor, you will learn about and manage all costs relating to construction projects. You’ll have the opportunity to take responsibility for most aspects of the role of a QS within construction, from conception through to the design and build and on to completion.
You will help take a leading role in achieving and exceeding a project’s commercial targets and whenever possible improving the company’s commercial position regarding client and subcontractor final accounts.

You will support the Operational team at all stages of construction including;

Pre-start of works – preparing all required processes, documents and programme requirements before getting on site
During works – awareness and contribution to the continual improvement of a projects commercial performance
Subcontractors – Manage subcontractors whilst on site from ensuring they have adequate resources to complete works to holding regular progress meeting with key subcontractors identified at any given period of the project programme
Health & Safety – Learn about the promotion of a safe working ethos on site by having a thorough knowledge of the relevant H&S legislation
